Bbagels
Bring Your Teens to the Plateau for a Bagel Experience Unlike Anything Else in Montreal!
Bbagels is an artisan bagel shop on Avenue Mont-Royal Est that takes a different approach to one of Montreal's most beloved foods. The shop was born out of a home kitchen, where founder Alon Biron began making oversized bagels for friends. Word spread, orders grew, and what started as a weekend project eventually became a brick-and-mortar shop on the Plateau. The bagels here are served warm, made to be torn apart by hand and dipped into flavourful schmears rather than sliced and dressed like a sandwich. It is a casual, community-driven spot with a concept that is simple, memorable, and very easy to share.

When: Open Wednesday through Sunday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed on Mondays.
Where: 945 Avenue Mont-Royal Est, Montréal, QC H2J 1X3 🚇 Mont-Royal
Highlights:
- Oversized Bagels Made to Share: The bbagels are double the size of a traditional Montreal bagel and are always served warm. Classic flavours are available including plain, sesame, poppy, salt, and everything, alongside a zaatar and sumac option. Bagels are sold in packs rather than individually, which makes the experience well suited to a family outing.
- Schmears Worth Trying: Each order comes with a schmear, the shop's take on a flavoured cream cheese spread. Options include green onion with lemon zest, dill pickle, honey garlic and jalapeño, and chimichurri, among others. The variety gives parents and teens something to talk about and mix and match.
- Open-Faced Sandwiches on the Menu: In addition to the classic tear-and-dip format, bbagels also offers open-faced sandwiches for those who want something more substantial. Smoked salmon is one of the options available, though the full menu is worth checking directly for current offerings.
- Loaded Bagels: A newer addition to the menu, the loaded bagels are stuffed with fillings rather than served open-faced. Options have included a smoked meat version and a Nutella bagel filled with Nutella, strawberry, banana, and marshmallow, among others. Worth checking the bbagels website or Instagram for current offerings before your visit.
- Vegan Baked Goods Available: The shop offers freshly prepared vegan baked goods alongside the bagels.
Recommended Audience: This is a fun outing for parents with teens and young adults in Montreal who want to experience a different take on the city's bagel tradition: oversized, served warm, and eaten by tearing and dipping rather than slicing.
What to Expect: A small, community-focused bagel counter on Avenue Mont-Royal where oversized warm bagels are sold to share, paired with flavourful house-made schmears, alongside open-faced sandwiches and loaded bagels.

Some things to consider during your visit:
-
The Shop Does Not Accept Credit Cards: Payment in store is by debit or cash only. Planning ahead and making sure you have one of those options on hand will save you from an inconvenient surprise at the counter.
-
Plan Around the Monday Closure: Bbagels is closed on Mondays. If you are planning a weekend outing that spills into the start of the week, keep this in mind so you do not arrive to a closed shop.
-
Bagels Are Sold in Packs of 3, 6, or 12: If you are ordering bagels with schmears, be prepared to order a minimum of three. Other items on the menu such as the open-faced sandwiches can be ordered individually.
- The Shop Is Small: Bbagels is a compact counter space rather than a sit-down restaurant. Seating inside is very limited. If the weather is good, plan to take your order to go and find a spot nearby on Avenue Mont-Royal or at a neighbouring park.
Disclosure: We received complimentary bagels in exchange for our coverage.
